Every Company Is A Media Company: Can Journalists Redefine Their Careers?

Hack

Thursday evening in San Francisco I will be emceeing an event organized by NerdWallet, exploring the topic of journalists, "redefining their careers outside traditional media."

Newsrooms are still shrinking and some publications, such as GigaOm,  have closed recently. This is pushing companies to fill in the gap in media coverage by producing more of their own media content. Every company is a media company because they have to, they don't have much choice.

NerdWallet has more than 50 journalists creating content to help people with financial decisions.

Here's the details:

Who: An inspiring panel of media professionals, from recent graduates to veterans, all of whom have taken their careers in a unique direction. Hear and meet speakers such as Marisa Wong, managing editor of SlideShare, Stacey Delo of Maybrooks.com, and Todd Lappin, a content strategist at Facebook. They'll talk about their career paths and the future of the industry.

When: 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 12.

Where:  NerdWallet HQ, 901 Market St., San Francisco, 6th floor. We're right at the Powell Street BART station. Take the Fifth Street exit and look for people in NerdWallet T-shirts; they'll help you get to the right place.

For those who can't make it, we will be live streaming the event at this address:
