3.8.07 Glorious republic of Kazakhstan censored Borat

Among the human rights abuses chronicled by the State Department is that Kazakhstan took control of the .kz domain and deleted the Borat website there, AP reports.

The government also monitored e-mail and Internet activity, blocked or slowed access to opposition websites and planted propaganda in Internet chat rooms, the State Department said.

"The government limited individuals' ability to criticize the country's leadership, and regional leaders attempted to limit local media outlets' criticism of them."
