Tim Ferriss: Technology is a Great Slave but a Terrible Master

By Tom Foremski - July 7, 2008

We have more productivity applications than we can shake a stick at, but do we have the right attitude and aptitude to use them well? I struggle with this all the time and I know most people in Silicon Valley do the same.

Tim Ferriss, the author of The 4-Hour Workweek is among a small group of people that can help.

I first met Tim Ferriss when his top selling book was but a big pile of uncorrected proofs and he was asking for advice on how best to promote his book. This was just a few months before publication. I shared with him what I knew and said he should have started months ago.

He took to the online world like a duck to water and his is an excellent case study into how to build sales to the top of the New York Times, WSJ and a dozen other lists, including Amazon - and without doing a book tour.

Here is the excellent Tim Ferriss on a recent episode of Fast Company's WorkFast.TV with Robert Scoble and Shel Israel. I recommend that you skip the Ferriss-free introductory banter and dive in around the 5 minute mark.

An interview worth spending your time to view.

Great interview. Ordered the book from Amazon.

I'm not sure that even Tim can teach corporate America the aptitude it would take for the 4HWW.

At least the secrets will be left to those who get it.
