SF Startups In The Shadows Of Big Brands At CES

Startups on Parade

Jamie Bezozo from New York based Sunshine Sachs writes that several San Francisco startups are at this week's Consumer Electronics Show. It's not just big brands.

Hello - reaching out to share news from about several SF-based startups competing tonight at CES at TechCrunch's Hardware Battlefield stage. The finalists are amongst 15 unique innovators, to be judged by some of the biggest names in tech. Startups include:

·         Current Labs - designs products that monitor and control aquatic systems, such as: tracking changes in tank's water, reviewing actionable insights, and taking preventative action, all from the consumer's smartphone.

·         LookSeeLabs - the next generation in fashion and technology with an always-on display wrapped around a modern design bracelet.

·         Sentri - a protective service with a complete home monitoring and automation solution, giving consumers the power to know and control their home from one single destination.

·         Sutro - a water testing and data analytics company.  Their first product, the Sutro Pool, is a sensor-driven, connected, learning device to right-size the water chemistry.

·         Switchmate Inc. - makes home automation simple, starting with smart lighting. The company's retro-fit design snaps onto existing light switches to make them smart-phone enabled in seconds, and uses Bluetooth Low Energy or existing WiFi networks.

A winner (and winner of $50,000) will be announced tonight so I'll be sure to circle back with that news. Thought, in the meantime, this might be a great local business story highlighting San Francisco's well-known, entrepreneurial spirit.
