Last Night's Lunacy... And An Unusual Full Moon

Minimoon

Space.com's Geoff Gaherty reports that Wednesday's full moon was a special one. It's called a "Minimoon" because it's a full moon at its furthest point in its orbit.

A "Supermoon" is a full moon seen at its closest point to the Earth. The above photo from Starry Night shows their relative size.

Does a full moon explain last night's lunacy?

The small Minimoon had little trouble in raising raging tides of mental illness in the poor, half-naked wretches I saw downtown in San Francisco, screaming and hollering, running wide-eyed and wild.
