Zerista launched today at the DEMO conference, a way to quickly create online communities, but with an interface designed for smartphones.

It's an approach similar to Ning, except that it's optimized for mobile platforms. There is no need to use an app store to distribute the app, it works with any web-enables phone. It also has location aware features and merchant tools for selling tickets, and merchandise -- all within the app.
