It looks like the green stem on the strawberry is the "L".

Yes, probably the L has been combined into the G but it stills reads GOOGE at first scan...
And most people probably don't go to the main page anyway, they have a GOOG search box somehwere in front of them most of the time, in a toolbar, or browser add-on.
